Emerson Electronic Control Reset Procedure
Use this procedure before replacing any Emerson electronic controls. If electronic controls fail to program (or pair) with an Emerson ceiling fan, or operate properly, the following reset procedure can be easily performed by the end user:
- Hold the power button () on the transmitter for approximately 10 seconds.
- Change the dip switches on the transmitter to a new setting. This will change the frequency. (If both the wall control and the hand remote are being used make sure both are set to the same new frequency.)
- Turn off power to the fan for about 30 seconds.
- Turn power to the fan back on.
- Hold the power button () for approximately 10 seconds, or until the lights blink (if the fan includes lights).
- For Eco Models Only – The fan will automatically go into high speed conditioning mode. For approximately 5 minutes all controls for the fan will be locked out of function. You WILL NOT be able to use any buttons on the transmitter. Once the conditioning mode completes, control to the fan and lights will return to the transmitter. Should function properly after completing the procedure above.
Can I get a copy of an Owner's Manual for my fan?
1. Can I get accessory blades to fit the 42" and 52" Snugger fans?
42" and 52" Snugger fans are not compatible with accessory blades.
2. Are the reversible blades available as an accessory?
Accessory blades are single finish (same finish on both side of blade) and available in most finish choices. However, it is possible to purchase reversible blades (different finish on each side, for example: Maple/Natural Cherry) as a service part through Carroll Parts at 1-800-654-3545.
3. Can I choose the finish of the blades for my fan?
We offer different blade options for many of our fans. Our Blade Select fans offer a wide selection of blades. Please refer to specific product pages on our website emersonfans.com or our catalog for blade selections.
1. What is the diameter of the canopy that goes up against the ceiling?
The diameter of the canopy depends on the fan model. Please see specific product pages for dimensions by model.
2. What's the difference between Damp and Wet rated fans?
Damp rated fans a suitable for damp locations such as covered porches, covered patios and covered decks...anywhere there is a roof overhead. Wet rated fans are suitable for wet locations such as porches, patios and decks.

Emerson does not test non-Emerson accessories for use with its products and strongly recommends against using non-Emerson accessories due to their unknown compatibility. However, we have a large selection of accessories from blades to controls, light fixtures to fitters, among others, that are appropriate for use with Emerson ceiling fans.
5. How can I return or exchange a fan I purchased?

1. Can I use one wall or remote control for two fans?
Yes, you can. It is possible that fans will get out of sync with time (For Example: one fan would turn on and the other one would still be off) as your body might block the signal to one of the fans. It is recommended to use a separate frequency control for each fan.
2. Which control do you recommend if I simply want to control the fan speeds and reverse?
Recommended controls depend on the ceiling fan model. Please see the Control Guide in our catalog.
3. What's the difference between the 400 series and 600 series controls?
The 400 series controls have 4 speeds in one direction (downflow) and have a single light control with a dimming feature that can be turned on/off for different bulbs types. The 600 series controls have 6 speeds with reversing feature (down flow and up flow) for most fan models. They also have an independent control for up light and down light with a dimming feature that can be turned on/off for different bulbs types.
4. Why are the remote or wall control sold separately?
Some models include a remote or wall control and, in these instances, it may be desirable to purchase an additional control.
SLOPED CEILING KIT
1. Do I need a slope ceiling kit if I have a sloped ceiling?
The hanger bracket and ball supplied with Emerson fans will be okay for use up to 5/12 pitch. If the ceiling is sloped more than 5/12 pitch, you will need a sloped ceiling kit and 600 series horseshoe shaped receiver.
Note: Sloped ceiling kit will accommodate ceilings up to 12/12 pitch.

BULBS1. Which bulbs are dimmable and which are not?
In Emerson products, incandescent bulbs are dimmable. Our LED light kits are dimmable except with Eco fans; the dimming on our remote and/or wall control would need to be turned off. Fluorescent bulbs are not dimmable so the dimming feature on our remote and/or wall control would need to be turned off.
2. Is the socket base for incandescent bulb the same for a fluorescent bulb?
Only for the medium base compact fluorescent bulbs. Some of our fans have GU-24 two-pin fluorescent bulbs or a circline fluorescent bulb.
3. Does Emerson sell light bulbs?
No, we do not offer light bulbs in our product line.
4. What are the fluorescent bulbs equivalent to in incandescent bulbs?
9-watt compact fluorescent ~ 40-watt incandescent
13-watt compact fluorescent ~ 60-watt incandescent
18-watt compact fluorescent ~ 75-watt incandescent
23-watt compact fluorescent ~ 100-watt incandescent
5. How much light do the LED lights put out?
Depending on the model (see catalog)
16 watt light – 1200 Lumens / Light color temperature 2900K- 3200K
15 watt light – 1400 Lumens / Light color temperature 3000K
TROUBLESHOOTING - GENERAL
WARNING! Turning off wall switch is not sufficient. To avoid possible electrical shock, be sure electricity is turned off at the main fuse or circuit breaker box before wiring. All wiring must be in accordance with National and Local codes and the ceiling fan must be properly grounded as a precaution against possible electrical shock. TROUBLE PROBABLE CAUSE SUGGESTED REMEDY 1. Fan will not start. 1. Fuse or circuit breaker blown. 1. Check main and branch circuit fuses or circuit breakers 2. Loose power line connection to the fan, or loose switch wire connections in the switch housing. 2. Check line wire connections to fan and switch wire connections in the switch housing.
WARNING: Make sure main power is turned OFF.
3. Reversing switch in neutral position. 3. Make sure reversing switch position is all the way to one side. 4. Fan Wall Control is OFF. 4. Turn ON Fan Wall Control. 2. Fan sounds noisy. 1. Blades not attached to fan. 1. Attach blades to fan before operating. 2. Loose screws in motor housing. 2. Check to make sure all screws in motor housing are snug (not over-tight). 3. Screws securing fan blade flanges to motor hub are loose. 3. Check to make sure the screws that attach the fan flanges to the motor hub are tight. 4. Wire connectors inside switch housing rattling. 4. Check to make sure wire connections in switch housing are not rattling against each other or against the interior wall of the switch housing.
WARNING: Make sure main power is turned OFF.
5. Screws holding blades to flanges are loose. Tighten screws securely. 3. Fan wobbles excessively. 1. Setscrew in motor coupling is loose. 1. Tighten both setscrews securely in the motor coupling. 2. Setscrew in hanger ball/downrod assembly is loose. 2. Tighten the setscsrew in the hanger ball/downrod assembly. 3. Screws securing fan blade flanges to motor are loose. 3. Check to be sure screws which attach the fan blade flanges to the motor are tight. 4. Fan blade flanges not seated properly. 4. Check to be sure the fan blade flanges seat firmly and uniformly to the surface of the motor. If flanges are seated incorrectly, loosen the flange screws and retighten according to the procedure in the section on "Ceiling Fan Assembly". 5. Hanger bracket and/or ceiling outlet box is not securely fastened. 5. Tighten the hanger bracket screws to the outlet box, and/or secure outlet box. 6. Fan blades out of balance. 6. Interchanging and adjacent (side-by-side) blade pair can redistribute the weight and result in smoother operation.
TROUBLESHOOTING - REMOTE CONTROL
Fan/Light Fails to Operate Short Range
- Check that the speed switch on the fan is set to ()or()speed.
- Check that the light switch is on.
- Check that the battery is good (blue indicator light should light when any button is pressed).
- Check that the receiver is wired properly.
- Perform "Setting the Operating Frequency Steps" per the control's owners' manual.
- If the remote control operates the fan when close to it, but does not operate it at a distance of 40 feet, try placing the antenna wire outside of the ceiling cover.

TROUBLESHOOTING - CLICKING NOISE
1. Does the ceiling fan exhibit any wobble? If so, the tick may be coming from the ceiling canopy. Check the following:
- Verify the hanger bracket and electrical mounting box is securely fastened to the structure and everything is tight.
- Verify that the hanger bracket is mounted directly to the electrical box, with NO drywall between the bracket and box.
- Verify the hanger ball is tight to the downrod.
- Verify the downrod set screw is tight to the motor coupler on top of the fan housing.
- Balance the fan with the included balance kit and instructions.
2. Does the tick appear to be coming from the lower end of the fan, near the switch cup?
- Look between the top of the switch cup and the flanges for a possible wire nut that is protruding through the hole in the switch cup adapter. There is a cutout in the switch adapter that allows the flanges to be installed to the motor. Wirenuts can make their way up into this cutout area during assembly if not careful.
- Remove the switch cup and tuck any wirenuts down into the wire harness inside the switch cup.
3. Make sure every screw is tight.
- Verify the flange screws are tight o the motor.
- Verify the blade screws are tight to the flanges.
Checking and verifying the above should take care of most tick noises. The most common cause of what would be described as "ticks" usually happens with 1b. listed above. If the drywall has not been removed from under the hanger bracket the canopy will move and make noise at the ceiling.
If one of these steps does not solve it then it could be an internal motor issue. The fan should then be replaced. Another possible noise could be described as a louder, more prominent, thump in the fan. This could be a bearing issue. A bad bearing can also usually be felt by lightly touching a finger to the switch cup when the fan is running. If this is the case, the fan should also be replaced.
FAN WILL NOT RUN
- Check to make sure there is power to the fan.
- If the fan has a reversing switch, make sure the switch is not in a neutral position.
- If the fan has a pull chain and a control is being used, make sure fan pull chain switch is in the high speed position.
- Check the 9 pin connector in the switch cup to make sure the matting pins are making connection.
- If a control receiver is being used and there is power to the fan and the frequency has been set but the fan still will not run, the receiver can be temporarily bypassed to assure the fan motor will operate. Note: The fan will run on high speed for this type of test. Connect fan black and white to AC supply black and white wires.
- Set screws are tight at the top of the downrod and at the bottom of the downrod in the motor coupler.
- Blades are out of balance - use blade balancing kit supplied with fan.
CONTROLS NOT FUNCTIONING
- Motor and light will not operate - Be sure the steps have been followed for setting the operating frequency in the control instructions. Note: it is sometimes necessary to choose a new frequency after a failed attempt.
- Light will operate but not fan motor - Make sure pull chain is in the high speed position and the reverse switch is not in a neutral position (if applicable).
- Fan motor with operate but no light - Make sure wiring connections for the light are good up top and below in the switch cup. If light kit has a pull chain make sure it is in the ON position.
- Fan will not reverse - If a 600 series control is used, make sure the reversing module single white wire is connected in the switch cup to fan white wire and light kit white wire (if applicable).
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
IMPORTANT CARE INSTRUCTION FOR YOUR CEILING FAN WARNING! Periodic cleaning of your new ceiling fan
is the only maintenance that is needed.
Do not use water when cleaning your ceiling fan.
It could damage the motor or the blades and create the possibility of an electrical shock.
When cleaning, use only a soft brush or lint free cloth to avoid scratching the finish.
Abrasive cleaning agents are not required
and should be avoided to prevent damage to finish.
Tighten blade screws and blade flange to motor screws annually.

All Emerson fans, with the exception of Industrial Fans, carry a limited lifetime motor warranty.
2. What is a limited lifetime warranty?
This warranty covers all parts of the fan against workmanship and materials defects for one year.
3. Do I need to register my fan to be eligible for warranty?
It is not required to register for warranty rights. However, it is recommended to send in the registration card.
